Plot. Umberto Petroni, is an honest and zealous brigadier of the station of the Carabinieri at Civita di Terentola. The man has been engaged now for a good nine years to the beautiful Luisa Speranza, and the two are eagerly awaiting Umberto's special permission so they can finally tie the knot. When the long-awaited moment seems to have arrived, behold the brigadier is given a task of the utmost importance: he must escort from Civita to Venice Raoul Nuvolini, a notorious swindler. Against the Umberto's wishes, Luisa also joins the expedition, convinced that she can take a vacation in the romantic city to which they are headed. The year 1943 rolls around, and while the three are traveling, the Italian government signs the armistice with the Allies: in the ensuing chaos, the three travelers, however, try by all means to reach their destination....
